On Friday 13th September 2024, the Solmedia team got their lab coats, caps and sunglasses on ready to compete in the Coracle World Championships. Our team of 4, consisting of James Wallach, Director; Tyran Wallach, head of Purchasing; Oro Simpson Regional Account Manager and Neil Evans, Warehouse Manager, took the River Severn with a traditional coracle boat competing for the title of “Coracle World Champions” whilst raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
As well as being great fun, the aim of the event is to raise money for the vital services provided by Macmillan Cancer Support. To date, since the start of this crazy event 17 years ago, The Coracle World Champions competition has raised over £380,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support in Shropshire!
Our “Solmedia Snappers” team, didn’t manage to remain dry during the competition however the team did “Oar-some” and managed to make it to the quarter-finals. Final proceeds are still yet to be announced by the organisers of the event.
Macmillan Cancer Support is a charity that is very close to our hearts who are 98% funded by voluntary donations and goes towards people who are living with cancer. That includes patients who have been diagnosed with cancer, their friends and family who are supporting and affected by their loved ones with cancer as well as providing healthcare professionals with up-to-date recourses and training to care and support cancer patients in addition to supporting the research that goes on behind the scenes to help beat cancer.
Right now, the number of people diagnosed with cancer in the UK is 3 million, but this is projected to rise to 4 million by 2030. This rapidly growing number of people diagnosed with cancer need access to vital support from day one of their diagnosis. Donations to Macmillan help the charity deliver personalised cancer support and also fight for the interests of cancer patients.
