Royal Shrewsbury Hospital partnered with Lingen Davies and Solmedia, to introduce a brand-new Grossing Station from AnatHomic Solutions to their Histology and Cellular pathology laboratory. This new equipment addition expands their workstations to 3, enabling the histology team to respond to future increases in demands and deliver faster patient diagnoses.

Lingen Davies, a local cancer charity, was approached by the Pathology Team at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital through its grant application process for a £42,000 grant to purchase the Grossing Station through Solmedia.

The charity has long-funded large-scale equipment for use in the treatment process but it has never worked to support part of the diagnostic process. This project, from a new area of the cancer process – histology – is exactly what trustees on the charity’s grants committee are keen to fund.

The ET-101-2 Grossing Station is a revolutionary piece of equipment for Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and promises to deliver the tools needed to meet increasing demands and improve patient outcomes.

Following a successful installation by Solmedia’s in-house field service engineers, the hospital held an event to thank all parties involved in this project including staff and trustees of the Lingen Davies charity and members of the Solmedia team to celebrate the launch of their new workstation and the “cutting of the ribbon”.

Guests included Dr Jeremy Johnson MBE, Lingen Davies trustee; Emma Backhouse, Chief Operating Officer at Lingen Davies and Anna Williams, Comms and Marketing Manager at Lingen Davies. Representatives from royal Shrewsbury Hospital included Nigel Lee, Director of Strategy and Partnerships; Dr Angus McGregor, Divisional Medical Director of Clinical Support and Deborah Wareing, Operational Manager for Pathology Cell Path and Mortuary at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

“I just want to say a huge thank you to our partners Lingen Davies and Solmedia for the investment of the Grossing Station for the Histology Department at Royal Shrewsbury. This is about increasing our capacity for turning around tissues and samples for early diagnosis for cancer pathways and improving treatment for patients. So once again, thank you to Lingen Davies and Solmedia.”

“This a fantastic facility for our staff to use, a bright new facility with new equipment that we are very excited to open and start using, thank you”

Dr Angus McGregor, Divisional Medical Director of Clinical Support

“I was so pleased when we saw this application because I think pathology is one of the most important areas when it comes to cancer treatment at the hospital.”

“If this funding helps staff deliver results quicker and speeds up the process, it can only be a good thing – and something we didn’t hesitate to decide to put this charity money towards.”
